4th XI Cricket v Feilding Cricket Club

On the 15th of February the 4th XI took on Feilding Cricket Club Yorb in scorching conditions.  Unfortunately Logan Hey was unable to continue his success with the coin, losing the toss and being put into field. The Feilding openers made a good start, punishing any lose bowling and blocking out the good ones. The first wicket fell at 28-1 with Hamish Ramsay taking an easy catch off his own bowling, a good result for him after his efforts on crest earlier in the week. The 4th XI struggled to take anymore wickets in the opening session as Feilding worked their way to 91-2 at drinks and looked like posting a reasonable total. The introduction of spin however proved too difficult for the Feilding batsmen to control and a catastrophic batting collapse began. Something all too familiar as a Black Caps and 4th XI fan, but it was nice not to be on the receiving end for once. It was clear from umpiring decisions that LBW was not an option so Matua Pomare and Kalani Rhodes went to work on removing the questions and the bails. Feilding finding themselves 107-7 off 25 overs, now stuck in for the long haul. In complete contrast to the last 5 overs, the final 15 proved especially frustrating as the batsmen blocked and left, and we all baked in the Sun. Feilding managing to get through to 137/8 off their 40. Matua finished 4-15 and Kalani 3-7 off their 8 overs each.

In reply, the 4th XI were confident of chasing down the total and went to work achieving it. A couple of early wickets reduced the confidence but a handy partnership between Zac Tutty and Logan Hey steadied the ship and got the team through to 68/3 before Zac was out, caught for 25.  Cooper Ryder batted well for his 18, off 16, before being caught in the deep, and Kalani Rhodes supported Logan at the end finishing the game off 21.5 overs. Credit mostly to Logan Hey who scored 55 not out off 42 balls, striking at 130. A win by 5 wickets.
