3rd XI Cricket v Freyberg Cricket Club

The 3rd XI played Freyberg Cricket Club on a beautiful Palmerston North afternoon. Freyberg chose to bat on a worn looking pitch and found scoring very difficult as the opening bowlers bowled tight lines and lengths. 48-3 at drinks and the spinners turning it square the 3rds were happy. The 3rds took their chances as more wickets came after drinks and Freyberg were 114-9 with 5 overs to go. The tail wagged as Freyberg made their way to 140 all out in 39.4 overs. Mr Vindriis 3-30, Josh Langridge 2-18, Fred McVerry 2-22. The 3rds lost a couple of early wickets but Sam Kennett and Josh Langridge were able to consolidate to be 55-2 at drinks. The 3rds kept the scoreboard ticking over but a run out led to another wicket and the run rate required was creeping up towards 6 with 10 overs to go. Thomas Bell had a great cameo of 17 off 8 balls to get the run rate under control again. Alec Strydom made a quick 21 but when he fell it was up to 10 and 11 to get 12 off 12 balls. 8 runs off the penultimate over put the 3rds back on top with 4 needed to win off the last over. Unfortunately the bowler found his target and sent the bails flying on the second ball of the over. All out for 137 a loss by 3 runs. Josh Langridge 33, Alec Strydom 21.
