CRICKET REPORT: PNBHS 1ST XI VS Palmerston CC – 30/10/21

Jonty Fleck won the toss and elected to bat on the Ongley Artificial pitch. The batsmen made a slow start on a lush outfield, and it took until the drinks’ break before they decided to run with more positive intent. This change in attitude frustrated the opposition and accelerated the score. After a 70-run stand between Jonty Fleck and Jaiden Meyer, the middle order failed to fire, and regular wickets fell. The last wicket fell on 194 in the 48th over. A defendable score, but probably 30 runs below potential. Mr Davidson scored 23, Jonty Fleck 31 and Jaiden Meyer 50.

Some less-than-accurate bowling allowed Palmerston to get off to a sprightly start before the change bowlers put the brakes on. The lack of runs soon led to wickets as chances were taken and none of the batsmen were allowed to get away. Some sound tactics from captain, Jonty Fleck, stifled the opposition batsmen, allowing the bowlers to race through their overs and up the required rate. The challenge proved to be too much, and Palmerston succumbed to be all out for 152 in the 47th over. Bayley Latter took 2 for 39, Jonty Fleck 2 for 28 and Ethan Robinson 2 for 13. A win to PNBHS by 42 runs.
