3rd XI Cricket Report v Marist

The 3rd XI played Marist at Wallace Park and elected to bat after winning the toss.
Kieran Gill and Matt Rowe made a solid start before the first wicket fell for 35 in the 10th over. Oliver Murray joined Kieran at the crease and the two made it to drinks 66-1. Jacob Duker came to the wicket shortly after drinks and kept the score progressing before Kieran was caught behind trying to up the scoring in the 34th over. The 3rds attempt to lift the run rate started well with a quick 20 run partnership. Then from the last ball of the 38th and a dramatic 39th over, 136-4 became 141-9. The final wicket fell with 1 ball to go all out for 144 off 39.5 overs. Jacob Duker 38, Kieran Gill 34 and Matt Rowe 20. Year 9 Alex Pringle took 2-18 for Marist.

The 3rds were much happier with their batting effort than last game but knew there was still work to be done with the ball. Marist came out hard and lost first wicket for 21 in the 4th over. The Marist batters looked comfortable and with the assistance of a few extras were 86-1 at drinks. The introduction of spin started to slow the scoring and the breakthrough came at the end of the 24th over after a frustrated shot was hit in the air and the catch taken 107-2. A screamer of a catch as a ball was smashed to mid off by Zac Ball was followed by a mix up runout and Marist had two new batters at the crease and it was game on. Tom Collier and Zac Ball bowled a batter each before Rory Trotter picked up 2 carbon copy wickets as the batsman top edged the ball that lobbed to Tom Collier at short fine leg to start and finish the 37th over 136-8. 9 runs were needed with 1 wicket in hand as Marist had lost 1 player to a drop catch earlier and had to leave for x rays. Ehsan Muhammad came back into the attack and with his first ball drew an aerial shot and Oliver Murray continued the 3rds fine catching display and took the final wicket. Rory Trotter 2-4, Tom Collier 2-18 and a wicket each to Oliver Murray, Zach Ball, Logan Watkins and Ehsan Muhammad. Fortunately the 28 wides and 6 no balls weren’t too costly as the 3rds won by 8 runs.
