Gateway student Liam Earle
von Sally Wenham - Tuesday, 19. October 2021, 14:04

Congratulations to Gateway student Liam Earle who leaves PNBHS today to start employment with an apprenticeship opportunity with Couchmans Electrical, his work placement company.  Liam has completed several Electrical theory papers as well as a selection of industry recognized practical courses whilst on the Gateway programme this year all of which has helped to make him ‘work ready’.  All at PNBHS wish Liam the best.

I would like to thank Couchmans Electrical for not only offering year on year work placement opportunities to young men from PNBHS but also for providing, for the right students, employment and apprenticeship opportunities.  Liam is the third student that Couchmans Electrical have taken on in the past few years.

Plunket Raffle - Community Service
von Gerard Atkin - Tuesday, 19. October 2021, 07:38

We are looking for young men who are keen to make a difference in their community to get involved. See Mr. Atkin in his office after Form Time if you are keen to get involved. If you cannot find Mr. Atkin please see Mr. Lobb.

Palmerston North Boys’ High School, in conjunction with the Association of Boys’ Schools New Zealand (ABSNZ), is supporting the Plunket Foundation to raise funds for a new initiative to support new-born babies and their mothers

Professor Richie Poulton (Otago University) and Sir Graham Henry (Former All Blacks Coach) are driving this campaign and you can hear from them in this short video:

Getting a good start makes a huge difference to our pathway through life and our ability to flourish and live the best life that we can.  Your support, through purchasing a raffle ticket, will help to make a difference in the lives of the next generation of New Zealanders.

Tickets cost $10.00 each and can be purchased from the PNBHS Finance Office or from our young men.  There are more than $270,000 in prizes and this is a great cause to support..

The impact of COVID-19 has meant that the raffle will now be drawn on Wednesday 1st December. This is different to what is advertised on the tickets.

Thank you in advance for your support of the Plunket Foundation Lottery (Raffle).

Student Representative on the PNBHS Board of Trustees
von Gerard Atkin - Monday, 18. October 2021, 15:44

The Student Representative is responsible for selecting and organising the Student Form. The Student Forum provides an opportunity for the young men of PNBHS to contribute their ideas, which are then presented to the Board of Trustees by the Student Representative.

This is an important position and you are encouraged to carefully consider the information provided by the young men who have put themselves forward and to vote for the student you believe will best be able to present the ideas of the student body to the Board of Trustees.

The candidates for 2022, in alphabetical order, are:

  • Eli Hancock
  • Callum McKinnon

You can vote for ONE candidate only on the official voting form which will be distributed at Form Time. Votes need to be cast by 3.00pm on Friday, October 22 and deposited into the ballot box in the PNBHS library.

Do NOT give your voting paper to another student.

Do NOT write anything on your voting paper. Any voting papers that are defaced (have anything written on them other than a tick for the preferred candidate) will be ineligible to be counted.

PNBHS 1st XI Cricket VS Christchurch Boys’ High School 1st XI Report

The 1st XI was lucky enough to beat the Palmy Spring weather and play the first game of the season on the artificial turf at Ongley Park. PNBHS won the toss and elected to bat first in cold, blustery conditions. The innings started well, with the openers taking toll on any loose deliveries. Once the Christchurch bowlers found their rhythm, the scoring rate slowed, and one wicket was soon followed by the second. This brought Curtis Heaphy to the wicket and, together with Bayley Latter, they put on a 130-run partnership to take the team to 161 for 3 in the 43rd over. The middle and lower order then accelerated the scoring to take the team to a very competitive total of 226 for 6 from the allotted 50 overs. Heaphy scored 59 and Latter 91.

The 1st XI bowlers started well and “put the squeeze on” early, limiting Christchurch to 25 for 2 in the 13th over. They managed to consolidate and scored steadily, until the PNBHS spin attack took control and the pressure built up, resulting in 3 runouts. As Christchurch tried to keep up with the run rate, the bowlers managed to mop up the tail to have them all out for 141 in 41.4 overs. A win to the 1st XI by 85 runs. Fred McVerry took 2 for 43, Bayley Latter 2 for 29, and Aadesh Ganugapati 2 for 19.

This was a good win against a quality team, and it bodes well for the rest of the season.
